Seven Mile Creek Watershed Resources

The Sustainable Agriculture Series

The first perennial grain is in Nicollet County! Kernza® (intermediate wheatgrass) is a perennial grain that has been growing well in Minnesota in its early phases. Seven Mile Creek partners have been working with Ben Penner and Forever Green to help local growers give this new crop a try. Check out these videos to hear about its economic and environmental sustainability.

Ben Penner shares his experience piloting winter camelina in Nicollet County, MN, and the hope it and other continuous living cover crops provide for farmers, community, and the environment. Winter camelina is a winter annual (cover crop) that can be harvested for its oil seed in the spring while still growing a soybean crop after it that same year.

The Field Practices Series

With the video production skills of Gustavus Adolphus College student, DeAnna Giles, the Seven Mile Creek Partnership produced a series of videos about agricultural practices and farmer resources that are gaining traction in eastern Nicollet County. There is also a video about the trout habitat in Seven Mile Creek.
